"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God; your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

NELSON MANDELA, inaugural speech, 1994

Nelson Mandela's words are exemplified by his living example. He is a beacon of hope to the rest of the world. He is admired so much because he fought for justice but could also forgive his enemies.

Nice quote, and thank you for sharing it, but it is misattributed to Nelson Mandela's 1994 inaugural address. A quick search through that very speech on the ANC's official web site confirms that the quotation isn't there:

http://www.anc.org.za/ancdocs/history/mandela/1994/inaugct.html

Nor does it appear in any other of his published speeches (searchable on the same web site).

As it turns out, the author of the quotation is Marianne Williamson, from her 1992 book, "Return to Love" (p. 165). You can verify that through Amazon's "search inside the book" feature.
